Moving Logistics
If you have been following along, you know my family is headed across the country in a few months. We are in the thick of this transition now. We just closed on the sale of our current house. Somehow, we found a buyer without ever listing our home. It was truly a serendipitous situation. Long story short, my normal hairdresser was on maternity leave, so her coworker cut my hair. We were chatting and lo and behold she was in the market for a new home and we were getting ready to list ours!
Her family did a walk through and a week later we had a purchase agreement. I am actually really excited for how it all worked out. I absolutely love our current house and it feels really great knowing it’s going to such a nice family.

We are “renting” the house back from them now for 8 weeks or so with an established move out date. A per diem occupancy price was agreed upon and that amount has just been taken out of our proceeds from the sale of the house. This means we are mortgage free for the next 3 months! I plan to transfer our mortgage payment into savings though as if it was still coming out (boring I know but responsible!) and we will put it aside to go toward the down payment on our new house.
The plan, if all goes accordingly – is to move out with movers in MI. They will store everything for us for about 1 month. Then, come October our new house will be ready. We will be heading down to TX to close and meet the movers. Bryan and I will spend a weekend getting unpacked and mostly situated without the kiddos. Then we will come back for another month or so until we are ready to officially move with the boys and the pup. I’ll fly with the kids and Bryan will drive down then with Murphy. I’m not sure who has the better arrangement.

If you have been paying attention, the timeline isn’t adding up. Unfortunately we are going to be pseudo – homeless for about 8 weeks. We will move out of our house mid-September but we aren’t officially moving to Texas until mid-November. So, come September, we are moving into my grandparents home. We will stay there until it’s moving day. That house is currently empty, my grandparents reside in assisted living now. That house is also straight from the 1970s with the decor to go with it…
We are really grateful to have the space to use – but it’s going to take some elbow grease to make it comfortable enough for our family. Not sure I’ll share any pictures here but I’ll be sure to share all the fun details.
We head to Dallas in two weeks though to check on our new house and give ourselves a chance to have a better mindset about Grandma’s house being a temporary arrangement!

Yep, there’s a lot of moving parts with this whole thing…!
