The Mom Series – Volume #2

Published by MB on

Welcome Aly to The Mom Series! Aly brings a stay at home mom perspective to the blog!

Aly and I have literally done all of motherhood so far together. Our kids are the exact same age and with both pregnancies we had our babies only 2 days apart! She has been my saving grace many times, she’s a mom role model to me and an amazing friend to those in her tribe. I’m excited for you to read her Mom perspectives!

Here is Aly’s take on The Mom Series:

I am a stay at home mom to two busy little girls, Olivia (4) and Emily (1). I previously worked as a corporate trainer for a local health insurance company. While, I loved my job I decided to stay home to be with Olivia when my husband began his medical training. My husband is a general surgery resident and we have two dogs who are not very well behaved but we love them! We are a busy family living in the suburbs of Detroit!

Motherhood Journey

Both of our girls were planned and welcomed. I was very lucky that my first pregnancy was easy and healthy! My second pregnancy was also uneventful but I was a lot sicker the second time around. That was interesting with a toddler at my feet during the height of the pandemic! Overall, I’ve been very lucky in my journey to becoming a mom.

Unexpected things since becoming a Mom

In general I think what I’ve learned about myself has been somewhat unexpected. Motherhood stretches you in so many ways and has shown me my greatest strengths but also my greatest weaknesses. It’s been an enlightening, humbling and ultimately transformative period in my life.

Hardest thing since becoming a Mom

For me, the hardest part about being a parent is to be “on” at all times. It took me a long time to start accepting help as a mom. I felt as if I should be able to do it all myself and I’ve come to realize I’m a much better mom when I accept some help occasionally.

Favorite thing about being a Mom

I love the quality time I get to spend with my girls. It’s very special to me to stay home with them and while that can be taxing in it’s own right, I take so much joy in being the one who is available to kiss their boo boos and put them to bed each day.

Favorite things to do with your kids

I love taking my girls to the library! It’s definitely a family favorite! We also love spending time at the lake and outside!

Favorite things to do without your kids

I love to spend time with my girlfriends, or out on a date night with my husband. I also love spending time alone. whether that be on a run, reading a good book or even cleaning the house alone, I love time to myself to recharge!

Anything you miss about life pre-kids

I definitely miss the flexibility we used to have as a couple to travel or go out to dinner! It’s also taken me a long time to figure out how to prioritize myself in a meaningful way post-kids! It’s been so satisfying to do things for only myself again!

Anything you would tell your pre-kids self

I definitely wish I could tell myself to relax and enjoy! That is easy advice to give but is so hard to practice! Each year I become more confident in myself as a mother and I wish I could tell myself that it’s normal to feel like you have no idea what you’re doing! Learning about yourself as a new mother as well as learning about your tiny new human is such a journey!

Favorite kid age so far

I was surprised by this but I seem to love each age more as my oldest keeps growing! There is something so special about seeing your child grow into their own little person!

A must have baby item

Baby wipes! They are so versatile and I take them everywhere. You never know when you’re going to need a baby wipe.
