Welcome Rheanna!
My name is Rheanna. I’m 27 and have been married to my husband for 4 years. We have one son, who is 1.5 years old. I was working as a speech therapist assistant before my son was born, but have been a stay at home mom with him since his birth.
Motherhood Journey
My pregnancy was a surprise. We had talked about having kids, but hadn’t decided to actively try. I got pregnant during the pandemic, so I had to go to all my appointments (except the first one) alone. That was difficult. Other than feeling a little isolated, I had no other complications, and my pregnancy was a fairly healthy one.
Unexpected things since becoming a Mom
I found out that breastfeeding was harder than people make it out to be. I tried, but was unsuccessful in feeding my son. I had a hard time with that, because I expected it to be naturally easy, like society makes it appear. To go along with that, I also discovered that there are more moms who struggle to breastfeed than I thought, so I wasn’t alone.
Hardest thing since becoming a Mom
I think the hardest thing so far has been managing my own emotions while also trying to care for a little one that depends on you 24/7. I have postpartum depression and anxiety and my journey with medication has finally seemed to settle down. But while I was trying to figure that out, I really had to learn to take moments for myself or find ways to regulate my own emotions, so that I could be a present and loving mom for my son.
Favorite thing about being a Mom
I absolutely love watching my son learn new things. When he says new words or finally grasps a concept that we’ve been trying to teach him, it’s so amazing to see that growth!
Favorite thing to do with your kid
We love our park/playground days! I usually pair it with a donut date as well.

Favorite thing to do without your kid
I like to go anywhere that I can just take my time and be alone. Alone time is precious as a stay at home mom. Coffee shops are usually my go-to place, but I might pick a store, park, just a drive, etc.
Anything you miss about life pre-kid
I miss my pre-baby relationship with my husband sometimes. It has changed since our son was born, not in a bad way, but it’s definitely different.
Anything you would tell your pre-kid self
Find people who understand what you’re going through and don’t be afraid to ask questions. It’s hard, but don’t get discouraged. That sweet little life is worth it!
Favorite age so far
My favorite age has been our current stage. Since he turned one, he’s been so busy but his personality has just exploded. We can do more things together and he’s able to learn new things on his own.
A must have baby item
A portable sound machine! We used the Yogasleep Hushh when my son was in his baby car seat. It was easy to clip on when he fell asleep in the car and I had to go in a store or something.
Thanks for your candid participation Rheanna! I appreciate you sharing your perspective. I might have to plan a park and donut date with my boys this weekend – that sounds fun!
