As I type this, only 2 work days and 4 total days stand between us settling in Texas. I can\u2019t believe we are in the final days of being Michigan residents. We started considering this move back in December of last year. At that time it was really just a passing thought, it\u2019s still so surreal to me that now it\u2019s actually happening. So much planning and logistics have gone into this huge life change and it\u2019s truly been so satisfying to see it all unfold.\u00a0 You can head back here<\/a> and here <\/a>to get more details about what this process has looked like for us.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We celebrated with family and friends this past weekend and I felt so grateful to be surrounded by so many supportive (maybe some begrudgingly) people. Our families and most of our friends are scattered around Michigan. I can\u2019t help feeling somewhat selfish for making this big life change and moving away from most of the people we know and love. I\u2019ve had plenty of people reassure me that we aren\u2019t being selfish and this is a great opportunity for our family yadda, yadda, yadda. While I agree with that sentiment wholeheartedly, it\u2019s still easy to second guess a huge decision like this.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Ready or not, here we come Texas!<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

We are flying down this weekend – my mom is joining me on the flight to help with our kids. She is staying at our house through Thanksgiving weekend. I think it will be so, so nice to have her with us to help us get settled in. I\u2019m a little nervous for the day she leaves. I think the realization that most of our network, our tribe is so far away will finally hit me then.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All weekend, during our going away party I just reminded myself that we weren\u2019t saying \u201cgoodbye\u201d to everyone. It sounds so final. It\u2019s really more of a \u201csee you later.\u201d We already have some family members planning their first trip down to Texas. It was great to see their excitement about that. My in-laws haven\u2019t decided yet when they will visit. I assume some time next year. Giving my mother-in-law a hug this weekend almost put me in tears – so strange to say goodbye to someone and truly not know the next time you will see them.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Such is life though right? Getting deep for a second – but I feel like the past few years we continue to have this reminder that life is short, nothing is guaranteed. There\u2019s always some degree of unknown in life and it\u2019s not always predictable. I think Bryan and I have taken this philosophy and are using it to guide the decisions we make for our little family. Now, some people may read this and argue, \u201cwell yes, life is so short – why aren\u2019t you staying close to family to spend the most time with them.\u201d And, that is where a lot of my feelings of selfishness stem from. I guess I just hope that we swap out quantity of time with family for quality of time.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, is it so wrong to want to be able to play golf year round? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you read this, I will be on our one-way flight. Dallas bound. I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll have plenty to talk about over the next few months as we navigate these life changes.
